The Unlikely Chaperone book.

A classic Signet Regency Romance that "sparkles" (Literary Times) from Gail Eastwood. The twin daughters of the Duke of Roxley have beauty, brains, wealth and rank, but they refuse offers of marriage and test all their suitors beyond limits. Badgered into attending a house party at the Duke's palatial estate, scholar Gilbey Kentwell, the Viscount Cranford, has agreed to help look out for his best friend's sisters, knowing he is no candidate for their hands.

Signet Books was an imprint of the New American Library (NAL), which was established as an autonomous American publishing house after branching off from its British-based parent company, Penguin Books. Signet had the longest running Regency series, beginning in the late 1970s and ending in February 2006. It generally published three books each month, though this varied over the years. Signet also produced reissues, both of their own previous releases as well as those of other publishers.

She started violently and her fingers sought and gripped the book lying unopened in her lap with knuckle-whitening tension. The voice that gave permission to enter was barely strong enough to penetrate the panelled wood, though she summoned up a singularly sweet smile to greet the girl who peeked inquiringly around the door. You sent for me, Mama? Yes, dearest. Do come in. I was afraid I had missed you.

Wel Wel
The unlikely chaperone in the title of this Regency is a young woman scarcely out of her teens who is nevertheless chaperoning her 3 sisters, all "coming out" in London and looking for husbands. All are poor but beautiful. Two are identical twins. There are almost more romances than you can keep track of, and a good time is had by all.
I enjoy reading Regencies with older heroines (this one was 28) that are strong, know their own minds, and are loveable and interesting to boot. I recommend it!
