This is the second book of a two book Hawkins series by Ms. Winters. I highly recommend reading "Another Man's Wife" (see my review) first and continue with "Home to Copper Mountain" next. This mini-series is pretty much a single tale of the blending of two families - The Hawkins family from the Mountains of Colorado and the Jarrett family of the Texas Hill Country. The glue that binds the two books together is the sub-plot romance between Clint Hawkins and Pamela Jarrett which starts at the beginning of "Another Man's Wife" and finds additional depth and maturity in "Home to Copper Mountain." The protagonists of the first novel are Nate Hawkins, Clint's oldest son, and Laurel Pierce; while the protagonists of the second are Rick Hawkins, Clint's younger son, and Audra Jarrett, a cousin to Pamela Jarrett.

Rick Jarrett is a famous and highly successful Formula One race car driver that has yet to find a relationship that fills the void down deep inside. The thrill of racing competition is not what it used to be. He has just seen his father find the second great love of his life after having lost his wife and Rick's mother in an avalanche on a ski slope only six months before. He has also seen his brother, Nate, finally united with the great love of his life. The happiness and joy his father and brother now have only magnifies Rick's depressed condition.

Audra Jarrett is a cousin of Pamela Jarrett Hawkins who married Rick's father Clint. But Pam is more like a mother to Audra than a cousin because many years before, when Audra was only five years old, a huge tornado descended on a Christening celebration at a local church and took the lives of 36 members of the Jarrett family. The only ones spared were one great-uncle adult and five young cousins. The uncle takes the cousins in and Pam, being in her mid teens and the oldest child, assumes the mother role to her cousins.

Audra has great musical talent and plays the violin, piano, guitar, and harp. The harp was her specialty and, having studied under the greatest harpists in Europe, was now a master harpist playing with some of the greatest orchestras in the country. She also composes both music and lyrics in a unique style that gives her much popularity. She even has a popular late night radio program featuring music ranging from the classics to country. She includes a liberal number of her own compositions performed live. It was while driving to the hill country ranch to see his father late one night that Rick tuned in to Audra's radio show and begins to feel something special.

At the time of Rick's visit with his father, Audra was recuperating from an automobile accident in which she nearly lost her leg. She is also recuperating from being rejected by a man she thought she loved while in Europe. Rick had planned only a very brief visit with his father, but, while horseback riding, an encounter with a snake resulted in Rick's horse falling on him. His broken collar bone and dislocated shoulder forced a change in plans. Suddenly Audra becomes Rick's nurse and Rick becomes Audra's knight in shining armor.

The stage is now set to tell the tale of the intriguing romance between Rick and Audra. Ms. Winters knows how to breathe the breath of life into her characters and how to weave a tale that keeps the pages turning with twists and turns in the story line. I give Ms. Winter's a full five stars.

HOME TO COPPER MOUNTAIN by Rebecca Winters
Romance and love are found in the most unusual circumstances in HOME TO COPPER MOUNTAIN, part of a series of Harlequin Superromances by Rebecca Winters. In this book, Rick "Lucky" Hawkins is a professional racecar driver, who visits his father Clint and new wife Pam in Texas. During the drive to the Jarrett Ranch where his father and Pam now live, he listens to the radio and hears the most beautiful voice. What he does not know but finds out soon is that this voice belongs to Pam's younger cousin, Audra Jarrett. He falls in love with this voice, while at the same time Audra hears stories of Clint's son Rick, and she instantly formulates an opinion of him, and it's not favorable.
Audra is recovering from a horrific accident in which her date lost his life and she is paying for it with an injured leg and a string of nightmares. When Audra and Rick finally meet, they clash, partly because of Audra's past history of rejection and tragedy. Her fear to trust and make commitments is evident, and Rick does all he can to make her change her opinion of him.
In the meantime, while Audra watches Pam and Clint in their newfound happiness, she finds herself slowly being caught up in the person that is Rick Hawkins. And amidst family turbulence that makes the Hatfields and McCoys seem like a day in the park, Rick and Audra work together to help Audra and the Jarretts come to terms with a tragedy that happened decades ago.
Thumbs up for HOME TO COPPER MOUNTAIN. This was yet another well-written romance, with a plot that was different from the usual "boy meets girl" themes. I would definitely read another book by Rebecca Winters.

Between contracts, racecar driver Rick (Lucky) Hawkins seeks to fill an emptiness in his life. Giving away his motorcycle and buying a new BMW, Rick detours on his trip to select a contract to sign, stopping to visit his father and his new stepmother in Texas. Crossing the Texas boarder, Rick searches for a radio station, settling for a late night show playing an eclectic mix of classical, country, soft rock. The female disc jockey, Red Jarrett, includes her own original compositions in the show as well.
After an unorthodox beginning, Rick strikes up the acquaintance of his stepmother Pam's cousin Audra. She attempts to squelch their instant attraction, however, because a man like Rick burned her once, and she does not care to repeat the experience. With a broken leg and obnoxious, interfering cousins, however, Audra soon welcomes Rick into her home while he recovers from a horse riding injury. It takes a while, however, for Rick to realize she owns the sexy voice he heard in the late night hours. The question remains if their extreme differences will keep them apart or draw them even closer together.
A riveting read, HOME TO COPPER MOUNTAIN provides a marvelous sequel to ANOTHER MAN'S WIFE. Family discord brings together two powerful characters with Audra and Rick. With poignant flair, author Rebecca Winters pens an endearing contemporary romance with richly developed characters and profound motivation. While an excellent sequel, HOME TO COPPER MOUNTAIN works equally as well as a stand-alone. With love that spans generations, HOME TO COPPER MOUNTAIN comes highly recommended.
