This book was a great story about Althea, a Christian, and Simon, a Jew in England in the late 1700s and early 1800s. I was fascinated throughout the entire story with the history of the Jews during this time frame and how wonderfully Ruth Axtell dealt with the idea of leading a Jew to understand Jesus as the Messiah for all - Jews and Gentiles. All of the characters were well presented in their role in the story and who could not fall in love with Rebecca! So much scripture and the many Biblical references were exceptionally well used in the story. Loved it!

I agree this book is very well written. The characters are very believable and well developed. Althea, the main character, will challenge you in your own walk as a believer. Simon, the male counterpart, is a Jewish man who is really in some ways is the family's "sacrificial lamb" to acquire their representative in the English government. This really is a very profound book for a first time author, or any author! My only complaint is that in giving Althea's traumatic past the author gives a more graphic description (I'm talking one line) than I think is appropriate for a Christian Novel. It compares to Christy by Catherine Marshall. My concern is not the married woman that read it but the unmarried Christian women. But other than that this book is superb!

I have enjoyed all of Ruth Axtell Morren's book, but I absolutely loved this one. I confess that I got to the end and promptly went back and read it a second time round right away. A fantastic story, gritty and quite and edge of the seat read. The history as well especially the experience of the Jews in regency England was also highly informative. The interweaving of faith and the story are not contrived as most Christian novels tend to be so it made it a delightful read. A brilliant brilliant book!

This was the first book I had read from Ruth Axtell Morren and I was blown away by how good a writer she is. I loved it and when I was done I gave it to my sister and told her to put down the book she was reading and to read this one. She did and loved it as I did. I cannot wait to get all of her books. If you are looking for a book to read, choose this one and you will love it as I did.

This is beautiful story by Ruth Axtell Morren! She is my favorite author and a weaver of wonderful, enriching stories. She has such a gift for creating believable characters that you come to know and like. She also creates a beautiful and moving love story that I believe honors the heart of God.
Wonderful read and so uplifting!

Typically a "cheesy" romance, but it's one of the few I will read and read again!
