A Baby for Emily book.

A Baby for Emily book. 0373244665 (ISBN13: 9780373244669). A native Texan, Ginna lived Ginna sold her first novel in 1983, after winning the Golden Heart Award, given by Romance Writers of America for the best unpublished novel in a category. She has been working as a full-time writer ever since. When she finishes her current contracts, Ginna will have written 33 books.

I'm a longtime fan of Ginna Gray and I've probably read this before, its a sweet romance with a bit of spice - the big Alpha male who is brought to his knees by a woman who knows how to give and just love him.

So glad I did! Love the angst of the hero and that the author does not resolve every issue with happily ever after whitewash. 2 people found this helpful.

They called a special meeting of the Board of Aldermen. A deputation waited upon her, knocked at the door through which no visitor had passed since she ceased giving china-painting lessons eight or ten years earlier. They were admitted by the old Negro into a dim hall from which a stairway mounted into still more shadow.

Emily Maguire's gruff-as-granite brother-in-law had always seemed intimidating and remote. But now that Emily was pregnant, widowed, and humiliated by her late husband, Dillon was suddenly sticking too close for comfort. Why?

Oddly protective of Emily and her in vitro baby-to-be, Dillon used his muscular exterior to serve her Jell-O, to nurse her through morning sickness -- even to become her birthing coach. But what unspoken secret made this rough-hewn male treat her so tenderly? And why did she respond so shamelessly to his raw masculinity? It almost felt as if Dillon was the father of her child...almost as if he loved her!

Yes, I know this is a Silhouette book but its a great read!

Emily McGuire's husband, prominent doctor Keith McGuire is dead, he was in a fire, in bed with his mistress - in the house he kept for her. Emily has just learned that after years of trying she is finally pregnant and now its all over and her world is in shambles. She had no idea that he was cheating. After going through the funeral and all the gossip, she's ready to start her life over but she needs a job and she doesn't know what to do next. She's never been close to the rest of Keith's family, her mother is dead and she has no other family.

Dillion, Keith's brother has never been friendly to Emily, she feels that he doesn't like her and she's never comfortable with him but after the funeral Dillion steps in and handles all the details - he wants her to rely on him but since she won't he offers her a job and helps her get an apartment (nothing is left after all the bills are paid). After Emily determines that the offer of a job is not a move to give her money for doing nothing she and Dillion become friends. But there are still secrets that need to be told and confessions that need to be made.

I love Ginna Gray books, her later books are very good but these have great story lines and the content is wonderful. When you're in the mood for a hea without too much hassle or drama, this is what I like to read and yes, it does deserve a 5 based on what it is and who wrote it. The best of Silhouette!

I enjoyed the story. Dillon was a great guy and Emily was someone I'd want to be friends with. I enjoyed their interactions and how their HEA fell into place. Worth reading again.

the story was really sad but i liked it and wanted to read it to the end. I'm not sure I will deliberately go looking for other books by this author though

A charming story--I liked the way Dillon pined for Emily and took care of her. This was a good lazy Sunday afternoon read.

I would have like a little more of an ending but the story is sweet. How can you not fall in love with Dillon?

Her husband just died and she found out he has been lying to her, cheating and basically squandering their money away. She never new and had to find out from the lawyer. Now, any sane woman would have learned her lesson and take her life in hands. Not this one, she just transfer herself to the brother. He has to take care of the finances now, tell her when to sleep, eat and so on. Cherry on the cake, she doesn't even know who's seed is growing in her belly.

Just ridiculous. I made it through 27 per cent and was ready to shake some sense into her. Pathetic. Why do author write woman like that? Who wants to be like that or o marry someone like that?

No spoiler alert since you find all this out within the first 20% of the book.

Emily doesn't know what hit her. One day, she believes that she has a perfect life - a wonderful, caring doctor husband who adores her, a baby on the way, and a comfortable, financially-secure lifestyle. The next day, her life literally goes up in flames - she discovers that her "devoted husband" really had a mistress on the side and had died in her arms from smoke inhalation, her life isn't so financially secure thanks to her husband's reckless spending, and everything she had ever hoped for is gone. The only small comfort in her life is the child she is expecting, her own little miracle baby.
Dillon, Emily's brother-in-law, is determined to take care of his brother's wife, despite having kept her at a distance for the seven years of her marriage. Emily does not know that her handsome, brooding brother-in-law has been in love with her since he first met her. Emily also does not know that it isn't her husband's child she is carrying, after all - but Dillon's child. Can Dillon win Emily's heart after finally given the opportunity, or will the secrets he keeps tear them apart before they can begin?
I really enjoyed this story. Dillon was a great hero - strong, intense, and fiercely devoted to Emily and the baby. Emily was also a great heroine for him - she too had a strong character, which was obvious when she kept going even after the fullness of her husband's betrayals became known to her. Some of the secondary characters (particularly Adele, Emily's mother-in-law) were one-dimensional and could have been fleshed out a little more, but that's not a major flaw in the story line or anything like that. Dillon and Emily's relationship progressed over time and seemed completely natural, almost like this could really happen in real life :) So if you want to spend a few hours with a pleasant, heart-warming read, pick up this book! :)
If you love Sandra Brown and you've read her book "Led Astray" this is the book for you. It's eerie alike. The difference between the books is that Sandra Brown's book has a bit more romantic sceens while Ginna Gray's book goes a little bit slower. Let me get to what the books about. The main characters in the book are Emily and Dillion. Emily's husband has just died in a fire while he was in bed with his mistress. Dillion is Emily's brother in law who Emily thinks hates her which cannot be further from the truth. Dillion has been in love with Emily since the first time he meet her but he hides it by being somber and remote whenever she's around. Losing her husband and finding out he has been unfaithful she also learns that her now deceased husband was deep in debt. If that wasn't enough she just learned a few days ago that she was pregnant. To Emily's surprise Dillion steps right in to help her. Emily doesn't understand why Dillion is being so kind to her. Dillion knows something Emily doesn't. Emily is carrying his child.
