Longarm finds himself in Denver, buried in paperwork for the last 3 weeks, and is just about at his wits end. Vail knows his best man is unhappy and reluctantly agrees to do some assignment shuffling and agrees to send Fargo to Monument Valley,Arizona. It's not a cakewalk that he gives Longarm, but a case of an ex-lawman who has gone bad, taken off with his beautiful, high class but now divorced wife. Not only that, the word is spreading around that this ex-lawman is trying to instigate an Indian war to boot.Dealing with lawmen who have gone bad,and Indians about to go on rampage, are right down Longarm's alley. However, this ex-lawman has put together a powerful gang, has been running rampant and getting away with a mess of crimes;and Longarm is pretty much on his own for bringing peace and justice to a situation that is well out of control. He puts together a most unual team ,consisting of an Indian and 4 girls that the ex-lawman has been holding as slaves.
This results in a well constructed episode with lots of Old West style manhunting, lots of action, the usual and seemingly unsurmountable odds, and some of the best developed and interesting characters you'll come across.
The only thing that comes up in this episode, and the idea behind my title;is the suggestion that Molly Molloy is Fargo's,one and only lady friend in Denver, and lives in his building.Either the writer doesn't know much about Skye's exploits while in Denver;or I'm missing something; and what Longarm fan isn't familiar with General Lairmer's niece and longtime friend of Longarm's,,the much talented,Cynthia Laimer? However, putting that idea aside, this is an excellent yarn.
Just in case you doubt this, check out "Longarm and the Gun trail",# 368,if you want to know more about the "much talented Cynthia Lairmer.
