Keith Wheeler is an American author, and the writer of "The Railroaders", "The Townsmen", "The Chroniclers", "The Alaskans", and "The Scouts", the fifth, tenth, fifteenth, twentieth, and twenty-fourth books in the Time-Life series "The Old West", respectively. Of the 15 writers, Keith Wheeler has written the most books in the series than any other author. While David Nevin comes in at a close second with four books, Keith Wheeler takes the lead, by having written five.

The Old West series, published by Time-Life Books, is pretty consistently good. This work, in my mind, is a kind of pair with the work on the Canadians' Old West. Brutal weather; challenging environment. But the human spirit ends up triumphing. Once the Americans purchased Alaska from the Russians, there was little sense of what had been acquired.

Published in 1973 by Time-Life Books, this is a reprint, which was printed in 1975. This is a faux leather bound hardback book with 240 pages and an ISBN. The front cover of the book has wear at the corners and scratches on the front of the picture. The spine of the book has little nicks up and down it. The top and bottom have been bent inward. The spine is weak, so the front cover isn't straight with the back cover. The back cover has a little wear at the corners and there are cuts on the back.

I model a fictitious Railroad servicing a mining town and outlaying areas. I wanted to know what were the barriers that stood in their way to the riches beyond the mountains.

I bought the whole series (Time-Life). The authors wrote a very good text, easy to read, plus allot of pictures and drawings.

Ships from and sold by West Coast Bookseller. I bought the whole series (Time-Life). It covers the wild west from farmers, to the towns people to the wagon trains, good guys and the bad guys. My way of thinking, this series is very good, but like so many other books, i use them to find things.

Ah, the Curse of Time-Life Books....Long on "Icing"; short on "Cake".In this case even the bibliography was
mediocre. Sure, Big Names like Kit Carson and Buffalo Bill received long treatment but many other received
little more than a page or so. My own personal favorite - Jim Baker - was barely mentioned, and his autobiography
not at all. Same goes for John Young Nelson (And HIS autobiography). The title of the book suggests an exhaustive
treatment but, as always the promise is greater than the reality. The best that I can say about this experience is
that, once again, Amazon did not fail to produce quick well-priced service, so I won't be tossing the baby with the
bath-water. My goal is to keep searching for high quality resources concerning the Frontier Indian Scouts. This ain't it.

Same with this, I purchased this great book to finish my lifetime collection, of the Old West These books are fantastic, to read, and the illustrations are very good indeed. This is my second collection, the first was lost many years ago, in a big "D" settlement! RW Davis,
