Only 7 left in stock (more on the way). Wilder's books about an obviously upscale assisted living home in South Carolina. Being a native South Carolinian, although not living there now, it was even more apropos for me. I would think most people would enjoy her sense of humor and it does show that all "old folks homes" aren't all bad and can be very enjoyable for that time of life. Good read, especially if you are older or if you have older parents or loved ones for whom you are responsible.

The first of Effie Leland Wilder's raucous tales about Hattie McNair and the other residents of FairAcres Retirement HomeHattie McNair may be retired . I am no where near "Out To Pasture" but I found this novel to be delightful.

The first of Effie Leland Wilder's raucous tales about Hattie McNair and the other residents of FairAcres Retirement HomeHattie McNair may be retired, but sh. . This book has the oddest group of senior citizens you will ever run across. Filled with both serious and light situations this book will make you cry and then laugh. Effie Wilder teaches us that just because you are older your life is still full and the possibilities are endless. Way to go Effie!! Great book about a forgotten generation. PaulWW, February 14, 2007. Written by Effie Wilder, 85 at the time, this is billed as a first novel, but I suspect it is largely autobiographical. Told in the form of journal entries by an elderly resident of a retirement home in South Carolina, the book consists of a series of vignettes spotlighting various residents and their experiences. In this book, old age is to be respected, but not feared.

The first of Effie Leland Wilder’s raucous tales about Hattie McNair and the other residents of FairAcres Retirement HomeHattie McNair may be retired, but she certainly hasn’t retired from life. In journals and letters to a friend, Hattie tells the stories of her fellow residents at a retirement home and of the immeasurable gifts and burdens of aging.Through the histories, hopes, and hijinks of Hattie’s friends and foes, we come to know the Fair Acres folks and to share their triumphs and losses. When they join forces to help an illiterate young handyman, Hattie and company change their lives as well as those of young Arthur Priest and his family. By the time we finish Out to Pasture, we know the pride found in a life lived long and well, and the impact that we can have, no matter our age, on the people—and the world—around us.

My first exposure to her as a writer and I was hooked. She does a fantastic job of weaving a story out of ordinary events, and brings a heart warming conclusion to her story. Wonderfully written, light-hearted and delightful! I had to order the other two books...she had written after reading her first.

Funny and charming. From someone who knows all the ol time terms and she is clearly smart. I sent it also to old friends of mine in nursing home to shear them up. B. Hilton

This is the best book I have ever read! I love it's witty charm and it's true to life story line. A pure delight and page turner with bits of humor sprinkled throughout.

Appealing to an individual who has just moved to a Senior Center and is having a tough time adjusting to how different it is from anything known to me. It is uplifting to one who has lost their husband of 64 years, who has sold her house and all her possessions, who is reeling from having a garden and all that goes with it to one bedroom, living room and bath. It made me chuckle, made me inspired to write of my experiences. I've given copies to many people.
Funny and entertaining.
