Barbara Taylor Bradford. Exhausted from weeping, she felt as though she had no tears left in her. The first pages in her grandmother’s black leather book had truly shocked and stunned her. She had been flabbergasted by what. she had read, and was filled with innumerable questions which only Gran could answer. She could not conceive how her grandmother had managed to endure such enormous pain and loss at so young an age. Or how she had survived what must have befallen her later on. Justine was well versed in history, and knew about the Second World War and the Holocaust.

I was so disappointed with this book as the grammar was horrendous. The authors sentence structure was child-like and many sentences were half phrases. It actually bothered me. The plot was decent, as there was an interest in putting the pieces together. But I could not wait to finish the book! I don't think that I will ever read any thing from this famous author again. This is the first and only negative review that I have ever given. Sorry, BTB!

The author has lost her touch through the years. This is the worst book of hers that I have read. The characterizations are paper-thin, the plot is weak and the writing is juvenile. I managed to get through all but the last few pages but just cannot stand any more editorial errors and stilted, stupid dialogue. I understand that the writing in the notebook is intended to reflect jotted notes but one incomplete sentence after another makes this reader react like chalk were screeching on a blackboard. I have read the large majority of the book and cannot stand anymore. We knew who Emma Hart was. Who is this hair-tossing nitwit protagonist? I don't know and I don't care to know.

Barbara Taylor-Bradford never disappoints. I have read all her books multiple times. I hope for something more from her sometime soon.

I was hooked with "A Woman of Substance" all those years ago! Barbara Taylor Bradford writes with passion, weaving stories so real with characters that come alive off the pages of her novels! She is one of my all-time favorite authors. Oh, excuse me. I think I'll go pull "A Woman of Substance" from my library shelf and read it again! In closing, let me say I will never miss reading one of her novels!

While this was a interesting story line which held my interest for the most part, there were sometimes too many characters over complicating the story. At the same time some dialog sounded trite and unrealistic. Overall a book well worth the read,

A good story idea, but the writing is so sloppy as to be distracting. It’s one thing in the journal entries, but another thing entirely in the prose. I hate having to mentally correct grammar and construction as I read. Really, editors are not that expensive.

It's hard to believe this is the same Barbara Taylor Bradford who wrote the Emma Harte series. This Letter from a Stranger is sooo disappointing. It's drawn out, has no substance, is totally predictable, too long and I hate to say this but overall boring. You'd easily mistake this novel for a Danielle Steel-kind of novel. So if you like easy romance novels, go for this Barbara Taylor-Bradford novel. If not, don't bother; it's a waste of time.
Outstanding story that kept me involved until the very end. Steve Jardine is a woman happy in her life. Some parts of the story seem unreal in that she seems to be the perfect mother making one wish for the insights into the family that she possessed. However she does retain a strong hand in the family and its business. The ending is a touch to the heart and warming to ones soul. Barbara does such a masterful job in any situation she chooses to put her characters.
