This is the third in the Nicholas Everard naval series. As an ex-sub sailor I was looking forward to this book, and it did not disappoint. Having sailed on a ww2 type diesel sub I understood most of the sub actions of this way boat. I found it very realistic. The action was very tense and had me mentally squirming in my chair. If you have ever been curious about what it was like on a diesel boat in combat, or sailed on one then read this book.

I am a little claustrophobic, so I found the long, drawn out struggle to penetrate the Dardenelles a little tedious. The battery pack in that little E-class submarine had a lot more endurance than I did. Nevertheless, it is a good story, and it you are a Fullerton fan, you won't be disappointed.

Having grown up on Hornblower and enjoyed Lucky Jack Aubrey I am pleased to have found a new naval personage to capture my interest. Great writing by Fullerton along with very well researched details on WW 1 ships, men and events. Well worth your time to read these books.

The most grueling submarine voyage I've ever read...if it wasn't for bad luck they wouldn't have ANY luck on the outward voyage. I couldn't see a 'Gato' class surviving it, much less a WWI British E class sub. But Fullerton never crosses the line of incredibility...that's why his books are so great!

I have become hooked on Fullerton's Nick Everhardt series about naval warfare during World War I. If you are a fan of naval history filled with suspense, this is for you.

Fullerton has done it again. His maritime experience and meticulous research evokes the feeling of serving in a claustrophobic WWI submarine. Highly recommended.
Few writers of adventure novels or even of historical fiction are as fully literate as Mr. Fullerton. His research is impeccable, and he writes very well.
