Naked, published in 1997, is a collection of essays by American humorist David Sedaris. The book details Sedaris’ life, from his unusual upbringing in the suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina, to his n college years, to his Kerouacian wandering as a young adult. The book became a best-seller and was acclaimed for its wit, dark humor and irreverent tackling of tragic events, including the death of Sedaris’ mother

His eyes went out. A whiff of ozone drifted through the room. The ‘novia’ muttered over her candles and altars in one corner. On stools covered in white satin sit naked Mugwumps sucking translucent, colored syrups through alabaster straws.

Naked Eyes are a British new wave band that rose to prominence in the early 1980s. The band had four US top 40 singles, but had little commercial success in their homeland. Their first hit, "Always Something There to Remind Me", was a cover of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David standard. The band had subsequent hits with their own compositions, "Promises, Promises", "When the Lights Go Out", and "(What) In the Name of Love" in the United States.
