Bunker Bean was wishing he could be different

Author of The Spenders, The Lions of the Lord, The Boss of Little Arcady, etc. Illustrated By F. R. Gruger. Bunker Bean was wishing he could be different. This discontent with himself was suffered in a moment of idleness as he sat at a desk on a high floor of a very high office building in "downtown" New York. The first correction he would have made was that he should be "well over six feet" tall. He had observed that this was the accepted stature for a hero. And the name, almost any name but "Bunker Bean!"

After reading this book I was surprised that it was not more well known. I read it after finding the title referenced in another old book. The story line was very interesting and it had an overall good message. I found main character pitiable but in a very likable way. With a name like Bunker Bean he seems doomed to mediocrity until he makes an amazing discovery. The book has a very 1913 feel but it is still very applicable to newer times. Overall it was a good read and I recommend this book. Can't beat the price-tag. The kindle copy is free.

He seeks to better his life from a fake psychic who tells him that in previous lives he was a number of famous figures(among them, Napoleon Bonaparte and an Egyptian prince). Upon believing the woman he begins to live his life as if he still were these characters. With this new knowledge he lives his life as a new man. His confidence leads to improved social life and many. In the end he discovers that the woman was a fake (after a number of humorous events) and that all of the success he has gained in his life is only the result of his own actions. The very end was a tad unsatisfying but the main . It could have ended a tad sooner than it did IMHO.

Slow to get to like. But once I understood the premise, it kind of grabbed me. A little disjointed but an ok read.

Great book and a very thought provoking read. It shows just how important a role our thoughts play is our own success and failure.
