Of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Cinderella and her Prince Of 'N Boots And Aladdin and his tents. I couldn't get enough of them I'd ask her every night But sleep would always conquer me No matter how I'd fight. She taught me about the world around From books she read aloud She made my life worth living And made me live it proud. When I had children of my own I read from those same books To teach my children that in this life You need brains, not just good looks. Perhaps Witt is preparing the reader for the tense atmosphere the poem will entail. It’s fascinating to note that the second line of the poem comprises of only two words – ‘theoretic thing’, literally emphasizing on how the power imposed by the hawk is an unsubstantiated, illusive threat. Also the word ‘thing’ trivializes the threat, making the reader believe as if the poet truly thinks nothing of the threat of the hawk.

Harold Witt (1923-1995) composed these three poems about his children and their activities. Lauridsen has set this poem to music with irregular rhythms, tuning open fifths, and phrases that return, signifying the returning to where one began. Emily learns ballet: "Girl in a world that now begins to spin,/ twirling on toes, in tights, your first ballet. Eric celebrates his third birthday: "My son is three today, in a walnut shade/ ten children blow harmonicas," and explores the backyard universe: "Comedian of love, my wind-willed boy has entered/ the bees' abode, the danger yard of roses. The vocal lines reflect more the poetic motion than actual word stress in their melodic contours.

The eve of New Years Day Left the Old Year lost to all. Very decent poem with precious message that a past is always lost.
