PLEASE: Place English & Spanish text next to each other on the page if possible. I would purchase if it had a good TOC. Revolutionary times are revving up, a better version of this revolutionary's words would have an audience. One of the reasons I chose this version of the poems was because it had both Spanish and English translations. It was a gift for my Cuban mother, and she loved it. I was able to read it along side her and understand it because of the translations on the next page. One person found this helpful.

The literature of Spanish America is an important branch of Spanish literature, with its own particular characteristics dating back to the earliest years of Spain’s conquest of the Americas (see Latin American literature). The Roman conquest and occupation of the Iberian peninsula beginning in the 3rd century BC brought a Latin culture to Spanish territories. The arrival of Muslim invaders in 711 CE brought the cultures of the Middle and Far East. Realizing that finding and selecting a sizeable body of Spanish sonnets to translate into English would take many years of studying individual poets, Cobb decided to rely on Spanish anthologies, especially those focusing on the various periods, to provide at least his initial selection. In the first of three volumes, he begins with the first known sonneteer in Spanish, Inigo L=pes, MarquTs de Santillana (1388-1458) and proceeds to Pedro Calder=n de la Barca (1600-81). The 245 sonnets are in Spanish and English on facing pages. He does not provide notes, an index, or bibliography. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
