When All Hell Breaks Loose. Today he's going to propose to Adrian Jenkins, his girlfriend of three years.

He’s all smiles when he gets off the plane and walks into the terminal. He looks well rested and ready to get back into the swing of things. I ask as we grip, do a brother hug, and. head to the baggage claim. Man, it was all that! Moms made homemade everything! She sent you back two pies, half a carrot cake, and a peach cobbler. I’ll have to call her and tell her thanks. What else did you do?. To be honest, the entire time I was there, I thought about Carla. We even talked a few times. I gave her the number before I left.

But when he actually does, all hell breaks loose and he gets a lot more than he bargained for. His mother returns from France, where she's been living as a jazz singer since leaving her family in Texas nearly twenty years. I am a faithful reader of black authors, and I rank them one as a one to read. I am looking forward to the next book. This Was a Very Good Book! Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 19 years ago. Camika Spencer performs these prerequisites well. One of Ella Fitzgerald’s trademark was her impeccable timing. Spencer also possesses a remarkable timing in the way that she allowed Gregory’s world to unfold, realistically. Spencer builds Gregory’s world and allowed me, as the reader, to sit on his shoulder. For she doesn’t push the envelope with her first person narrative, she picks it up and takes it to the limit and gently sits it on the line, as if it’s not a problem. When All Hell Breaks Loose didn’t take on the rhythm of a train, slowly grinding it’s wheel’s, rolling faster and faster until it’s moving a break neck speed.

It's a Sunday morning, and while most people are thinking about getting the paper and breakfast, Gregory Alston has something other than eggs on his mind. Today he's going to propose to Adrian Jenkins, his girlfriend of three years. But when he actually does, all hell breaks loose and he gets a lot more than he bargained for. His mother returns from France, where she's been living as a jazz singer since leaving her family in Texas nearly twenty years ago. His Holy Roller sister, Shreese, complains that Adrian is too "worldly" for him, even though she herself is falling for the shady, charismatic pastor of her church. And his boys-who run the gamut from player to buffoon-react to the news of his engagement with grief and disbelief. And if that's not enough, he's got Adrian, who has more skeletons in her closet than a haunted house. What's a brother to do? When All Hell Breaks Loose is a debut novel about black twenty-somethings that is fast and funny. It's also a peek into the minds of young black men. Camika Spencer won't just have you laughing-she'll have you looking in the mirror to see if she's talking about you.

I could not get into the book. The author, who is female, told this story from a male perspective. However, in my opinion, it did not work for she was not convincing presenting as a male. Conversations between the characters were too long and boring. Additionally, the conversations did not add or enhance the story. I skipped so many pages for this reason and I still got the the point. I complete the book because I felt compelled to finish it. Maybe she should get a better editor to work these bigs out.

This started out slow and it took a while to get to a point of enjoyment however what an amazing ending. I liked the way that the writer summarized the two main characters in the end. Once you get past the preliminaries then the story became quite interesting and what a surprise ending.

I usually don't give bad reviews but I must make an exception. I purchased the book sometime last year, and have struggled to finish it after pickin it up and putting it down a couple of times.
After seeing all of the "glorious" reviews I decided to give it another try and FINISH IT! I must say that I was truly disappointed. I am sure Ms. Spencer's next book will be "da bomb" but this was a dud for me.
It was tooooooooooooo slow - and it was sooooooooooo predictable. I mean I figured out the book's ending in the first portion of the book but it took Ms. Spencer 200 pages to finally get to the end of the story.
I'm sorry...I just was expecting a lot MORE based on all of the reviews that I read. But then again...who am I to judge!
Try it you might like it!

This is the story about a man who decides that he has found the woman for him and wants to get married. It is funny and cute to see his adoration of his intended however, she has a secret which is pretty easy to figure out around the middle of the book. However, getting to the revelation of the secret and the subsequent consequences is a very funny, entertaining and thought provoking journey. There were some descriptions and lines in this book that were utterly hilarious. My favorite part was the house party. It brought back memories from parties and people in my own past. This is really a delightful read which is very entertaining and very well written.

A nice read for a Sunday afternoon, reminds me of a movie you find on the Lifetime channel. Entertaining and a enough drama that you continue to read until you reach the end.

I've been a member of a book club for several years now, and as a group we rated this
book a "1". A "1" in our rating means "a waste of time". We've never rated a book this
low in all the years I've been reading with them. I was very disappointed!
