I enjoyed this book overall. It was an engaging and fast moving story. The author writes well with no errors and well researched. It seemed like to did a lot of research on this topic and it comes through in the little details of the story. However, the book is set in the 1980's and that is an odd choice in my mind. It didn't detract from the story, but it didn't add anything to it either. The one big issue I had with this book was some of the language used by the 2 agents, Gibbons and Tozzi. There is some liberal use of derogatory terms for black, Italian and gay people, among others. There are also a couple of sex scenes in the book that are rather graphic in their descriptions. So if coarse language and graphically described sex make you uncomfortable, I would suggest you pass on this novel.

Bruno has started what should be solid series featuring two flawed characters. One a retired agent and his former partner,
the two forming formidable pair. Both seek justice, both are passionate about the law, but have different approaches to fulfilling justice. First book in series pits them against phantom organized crime boss, slowness of justice system, and uppity boss. Will definitively follow series.

The prologue sets the stage with a vicious act. From that point forward it is a fast action story.

FBI agent Tozzi is off the reservatlon administering street justice. Retired agent Gibbons is assigned to find him. But the situation becomes much more complicated as the two agents discover a secret crime family and a traitor in the agency. True, they are very lucky to survive long enough to complete their investigation. Conflict, betrayal, vengeance, and suspense describe this novel. The author's narrative style is detailed, which brings the reader directly into the story. Reviewed by the author of The Children's Story, About Good and Evil, A Novel Not for Children.

A good read, I would definitely recommend it and I enjoyed the story. A fair share of violence may trouble some readers? The story has a good plot about two hardened cops (FBI) skirting the law when necessary - while chasing a few mafia type crooks. Their escapades are put together in a fast-paced intensity that keeps you engaged with an abundance of plot twists. Many mystery authors seem to have trouble ending the book, this author didn't have that problem and I liked the ending.

I had never read this author before. I really enjoyed Gibbons a lot. Tozzi is a big hearted renegade. Together they make a great team.

I liked this book. The plot was very good with interesting twists and the characters were well developed, with the two main agents having different work standards. There is a lot of action here too. Readers please remember that this story may not be written as politically correct as some would want. Recommended.

This book by Bruno was a little different from the plot perspective than many mysteries. One of the characters has gone wild, off the reservation, from a high governmental level. It is one of a series of Gobbons and Tozzi novels and this is the first one I have read, but I really liked it. I will read others. Good mystery.

J. Robert EWbank author "John Wesley, Natural Man, and the Isms" "Wesley's Wars" and "To Whom It May Concern"
Two FBI agents with different styles, one by the book and the other a true renegade. Their frustration with the justice system and corrupt bureaucrats makes them cut a few corners. They are hunting Mafia mobs, especially an informer in the Witness program who has gone off the reservation.
Plenty of action, undercover work and some gruesome deaths make this a good read.
