Well from reading the details you have an idea of the book. The heroine's irresponsible younger brother gambles or rather gives away his half in their hotel. This is a rather old hotel left to them by the sibling's father who hated his son because he resembles his wife who ran out on him. The hero of the story meets the heroine and decides he wants to save her and her hotel since he realizes the brother was just using his sister and the business is loosing funds. His way of doing this is to lie to her constantly, get engaged to her but somehow doesn't marry her until she gets pregnant (that's what unprotected sex does). Any how the heroine actually just gives away her half of the hotel to bail her hotel magnate husband ( then fiance) out of a financial bind. Bear in mind he tells her he is in a financial jam just as he gave her an eighty thousand dollar engagement ring. This hotel was left to her by her beloved father and she cherished it greatly but gives her half away because she is so much in love with her new partner who she barely knows. To add to the confusion the missing mother returns who doesn't have to answer where she has been the last eleven years. The plot thickens with more deception and murder. The hero tells the heroine that her brother who she knows sold his half of the hotel for a pittance, is irresponsible and can't be trusted. For what ever reason she does not wish to see the worst in her brother who she still pays a salary to even though he not only no longer owns half of the hotel, but is no longer employed there. Somehow this woman who has to constantly bail her brother out of trouble from gamesters wanting to hurt him, swears that her brother is the sweetest thing there is , and has suffered because their father didn't treat him better. Did I mention the babysitter who her brother impregnantes? As this book is set in the late 1800's early 1900's that is quite scandalous. What can I say the family doesn't worry about what happens after unprotected sex and repercussions. All throughout the book the heroine is a vey weak, and easily led person. She finally develops a backbone when her now husband (the hero) comes clean. This is when she decides to develop one and feel he was trying to use her to get her rundown firetrap of a hotel, even though he has many fine ones himself.

Except for the heroine who is rather simple minded (could just be very good writing on the author's behalf to develop characters who are different from the norm), this would be rated higher. Also it has errors such as dashes in the middle of words for no reason. All in all a good read but not outstanding.

Jean Nash jumped around a bit without fleshing out some of the characters enough. A nice story, but I kept reading because I thought the story really had more promise than it actually offered in the end.
