This is a historical romance novel authored by Danielle Steel. It is about a young American Woman who marries a British nobleman before World War II and their ensuing life. There is a lot of interesting episodes about wealth and royalty. There are certain aspects of this novel that seem like a typical romance novel and other times when the novel read like historical fiction. My tastes lean more toward the latter and I liked these parts of this work.

When I first started reading the book, I thought that I would like it very much. I found some of the story quite compelling. I don't intend to be a spoiler. But there is one particular part of the story, about a death, that I found quite poignant and painful.

However, later in the novel, the story seemed to just sort of slog onward. Speaking only for myself, I found some of the story was really quite tawdry. I am sure it is very difficult to write a full novel. And I have been told that it is really difficult to compose a good ending. Having said that, I felt this novel, as written, was about 50 to 100 pages too long.

The audiobook sold here is fairly short. It is abridged. Normally I dislike abridged works. In this case I think that this book could be abridged. However in listening to the audiobook, it is NOT abridged the way I would have liked. Some of the text that I felt was interesting was eliminated. So was the episode I felt was the most poignant in the entire novel. Thank You...

Jewels portrayed a !ifetime of love with its ups, downs, tragedies, and success stories. Initially, jewels were a means to a happy ending for downtrodden people who needed a new beginning.

Later jewels became a business that multiplied as did the family. Some relatives depicted good, great, and even evil personalities.

Read this wonderful book to discover for yourself why this is one of Danielle Steele's best novels.

A friend recommended this book to me. I had not read anything of Danniel Steele forever. I don't know if this is an old one or a recent one, but it is a good one. This is a story about a woman's life. How she endured a bad marriage, the war, losing a child and much more. The reader will live her life as she tells it in the story. As the reader, one will feel many emotions. I can absolutely recommend this book. It's a good, emotional read.

Jewels is so well done and spans so many decades. Add in WWII and it is a big hit. The other things like WWI and a devastating storm add to the spellbinding quality of the writing. You won't want to stop reading because you want to read how a character reacts when situations change. Underlying the story is that the family is the most important thing throughout the book. It is enjoyable, at times it makes the reader wonder and at all times, Danielle Steel never lets the reader down.

Most of the time. Irritating that some characters make such selfish & poor choices. why not at least some who recognize failure & move to better options . The last 3 chapters were a litany of events and characters thrown out. Lazy ending.
DEAD-SHOT DEAD-SHOT
Slow at times, hard to build a likeness to heroine.
Maybe just me, couldn't connect with her trials and tribulations
Not a favorite of mine.

What a lovely, graphic, but very heartfelt story. I loved all the generations if characters equally, but felt a very heartbreaking tug towards Sarah and all the trials and tribulations she went thru to keep her family happy and together.
I have read this book before and I will again. I love the story line and the characters. Steel always does her research and the things you learn about "the time period" in this book is very interesting. You'll find yourself ruffling through all of your different emotions as you read it.
