She has something he wants… and he has something she can’t resist. Laurel Sweet has the picture-perfect life. Her unwavering kindness has earned her a successful career in the party planning industry, and her loyalty keeps her holding on to the Sweet family bakery. From the outside looking in, she’s got it all together. But when an alluring businessman steps into her life, Laurel learns just how quickly she lets her heart take precedence. Daniel Becker's good looks and persistence mask his hidden agenda. As an architectural project manager, he’s set his sights on his next big project—buying out the Sweet family property for commercial development. Nothing is more important than closing a deal, so when Daniel puts his deceptive plan into action to manipulate the beloved bakery owner, the last thing he expects is to fall in love.

"Sweet Nothings" by Tracie Puckett started a little boring - it was clear from the first time the main female and male characters set eyes on each other that they were going to end up together.
But a kind of detective story emerged after a while, and so I stuck with it, and although my guess as to "whodunnit" was close to the truth, the solution came as a bit of a surprise.

The outline is quickly told: Young woman runs small-town bakery, handed down to her by her late mother, plus a successful party planning business. Young man appears on the scene, woman goes weak in the knees at first sight. Young man has hidden agenda but against his will falls in love with young woman. (And of course both of them are utterly gorgeous and flawless in their appearance, just like real people… erm…)
How will she react when she finds out his secret?
And who really set fire to the bakery in order to get their hands on the most desirable plot of land for miles around?

Admittedly, it is all somewhat improbable - for instance, why the best friends couples are actually best friends (and remain it) was a mystery to me. But the book was short, the writing style was OK (much better than "Stilettos and Scoundrels", the waste of time I reviewed here the other day!), and clearly some editing has been done before publication (not too many typos etc.).

My overall verdict? This was alright for an unchallenging train-ride read (and a free ebook), but I won't start looking for more books by Tracie Puckett and definitely do not recommend it as a "must read".

Laurel Sweet is the owner of a bakery handed down from her Grandmother and her Mother. She's also added a party planning business (where her strength really lies) on the side. She's hard working, she's loved in her community, she has great friends and she has more than a passing interest in the town's newest handsome bachelor, Daniel Becker.

Daniel Becker is an architect/construction worker who has fallen on financial hard times due to the economy. Daniel is currently working for his friend, who is obsessed with owning the Sweet Nothing's bakery property to build an outlet mall. Daniel's job is to get Laurel to sell her property and unfortunately this means manipulating her. He's not happy about having to play Laurel like this but he's the new guardian of his Niece and his Mother's health is failing, and he's desperate for the money. Falling in love really complicates things for everybody...

I liked this, it's cute and the characters are likable. There was a lot going on in these 130 pages. Even with his nefarious intentions, Daniel wasn't a "bad" guy. It wasn't hard to sympathize with him and to root for him to get the girl. The minor characters had personalities and the setting was great. I'd recommend this cute little romance to friends.

*This is a clean romance, just some naughty bits.
I really loved this book. I could relate to the characters and the plot seemed realistic and not too complicated. Some books try to throw in all these plot twists and end up ruining it/confusing their readers but not this one. Laurel and Daniel both have their sweet, romantic sides and their more assertive, go-getting sides. It threw in a little twist at the end of the book I wasn't expecting. My only criticism would be that they seemed to go from being semi-strangers to in love pretty quickly and without much courtship or dating. Other then that, I would highly recommend this book to others.

This was a good, fast read. Great for an afternoon when you want to read something light with a happy ending. I thought the plotline was really ambitious for such a short book and the characters could have used more development. Overall though, it was a good story and I enjoyed it. I liked Laurel and wanted everything to work out for her. Daniel was cocky. He knew the effect he had on women and used it to his advantage. Fortunately he was a good guy at heart.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a beautifully written beautiful story. However, I would have liked to have seen more of the romance story before the climax. I just need more buildup, more time for the relationship to grow before I can believe that it's really love. This book had everything I like in a book, I just think it could have benefited from more buildup, more encounters, more examples of chemistry.

There were no feelings stirred while reading this book. I like to emotionally connect with characters by reading, but the writing did not lend itself toward that.
The story was flat, the romance was flat.
The dialogue was a bit cliche', but the storyline was pretty good. I didn't agree with the ending and how a so-called "friend" could be so easily forgiven for such betrayal, however overall not bad.
So. This was a great book. I read it in one night on my kindle as I was getting tired but I just couldn't put it down. Those are the kind of books you always want to read. The only problem or issue if you so call it is that I wanted more. It was a nice quick/short story but I wanted more descripition of the love. Of the story before everything came to an end. I found myself laughing, smiling, even getting goosebumps, and not wanting it to end. Definitely a book I will remember and will be waiting for more!
