Prudence Makepeace had a soft heart, and so she readily gave up her own plans in order to escort her godmother to Holland. Once there, Prudence found the country and the Dutch people charming, with one exception—the overbearing Dr. Haso ter Brons Huizinga. As infuriating as the man was, sparks flew whenever they met, and Prudence couldn't deny a certain attraction to him. But why was she fretting over Haso? After all, he was about to get married. Little did Prudence know that the doctor's wedding plans weren't quite finalized. There was still the small matter of his intended bride….

I have read Betty Neels books since I was in high school working at a used book store. Her books are always light and easy romance, with some fairly predictable plots and characters; and a very "clean" story line. This book will probably not go on my "favorites" list, as the main character seemed to take offense at whatever the hero said. While I applaud independent-thinking heroines, I think Prudence was too self-centered because she jumped to conclusions much to quickly. Still, reading this story was enjoyable, as it moves me towards my goal of reading all of the more than 100 books Betty wrote in her lifetime.

I love all the old fashioned sweet romances by Betty Neels. I read them all many years ago and am now reading them for the 2nd and even 3rd times on my Kindle. She wrote them all on a formula. Usually a romance between a Dutch doctor or professor and an English young lady. There is always some type of conflict that has to be settled before the happily ever after. No violence and no sexual content.

Always love Betty Neels. This story was a little different and really enjoyable. I recommend it and invite you to add it to your collection. I am such a fan and just love her writing. She always gives you the three E's Entertainment, Education and Escape... Someday, I hope my books are as popular as hers.

A love story between two people who go through lots of hard times,
never knowing which way they will go.

I discovered books by Betty Neels in a thrift shop about 20 years ago. I bought one, and loved it. She wrote with a subtle simplicity that attracted me - no bodice ripping, no blatant language, just a good story. I found about 100 of her books in another thrift store, and bought them immediately. With my Kindle, I'm finding even more, such as Paradise for Two, which was, I think, one of her best stories - I had not read it before. Yes, her stories have much the same theme , but I find the characters interesting and her stories the perfect thing for a relaxed reading session.
