Taken by the highest bi. Annoyed by the interruption, he glanced up, but his irritation eased as he recognized beautiful, blond Samantha van Bergen, or more commonly known as the baroness van Bergen. It was, he thought, mouth curving faintly, such a huge, stately title for such a young blushing English bride. He played his card, then looked up to watch her unfasten the top hook on her velvet cloak, letting the dove-gray velvet fabric fall back over one shoulder revealing her white evening gown beneath.

Jane Porter is an American author of contemporary romance and women's fiction. Her novel Flirting with Forty was made into the Lifetime movie of the same name starring Heather Locklear. In 2014, she received the Romance Writers of America RITA Award for Best Romance Novella for Take Me, Cowboy.

I love Jane Porter’s books. This is the second time I have read this book and I enjoyed it immensely. This one had all the ingredients for your typical romance book, but it fell through with a wham. Cristiano, an Italian billionaire and Sam an English orphan have one thing in common and that is their unquestionable love for his half sister and her ward, Gabby after overcoming some difficulties. It’s about fac I love Jane Porter’s books.

Another good romance from Jane Porter. Strong characters and exotic locations. Lovely story to curl up with for a light afternoon read. This was my very first Jane Porter romance novel - which led to more, The Italian's Virgin Princess (Harlequin Presents, No. 2430), and more, The Greek's Royal Mistress: Princess Brides (Harlequin Presents). If you're a sister, you'll love these fantastic romance stories of three sisters and their romantic adventures.

Great character development and great chemistry between the heroine and hero. What held me back from giving the book 5 stars was that the hero made zero attempt to reconcile. As a reader, you get the sense that the split was hitting the heroine extremely hard and the hero not as much. I personally would have liked to get a sense that the split was hitting the hero very hard as well.

I didn't think I was going to like this book...because of the male lead but I felt for the leading lady and the love she showes for the little girl in her life. But after I found out more about the leadinv male I saw his side of the situation I couldn't help but hope the leading lady would come around to him and show him the love he truly needs.

The sex scenes are deliciously steamy - I hadn't read much in this genre before, but now I'm hooked! Thanks, Jane Porter!

I thought based on the title, description and the fact it was not published before 2005 that this would be a story with a lot of chemistry between the characters, hot sexy times and an alpha hero who would do anything to get and keep the heroine. I was wrong and unfortunately not for the first time.

SPOILERS included below
There is no chemistry between the characters and the smex scenes are mediocre. The few that there are lack passion and are smex by numbers. Also I disliked the heroine. I found the her a martyr wanna be and I am not the only one who felt that way. The hero called her one. She is self sacrificing to the point it is inane. She lives in poverty with a man who treats her like dirt so she can take care of the man's daughter. However, at no point does she try to get help to change the situation. While the hero marries her, when she does not agree with his continuing to race, he dumps her and wants to get a divorce. Instead of trying to do something with her life besides take care of another man's child part-time, she stays at home and wallows. She does not try to get a job. She does not date. In fact, she was 28 years old and a virgin when the hero met her. She just pines for the hero who is traveling all over the world to exotic locations with his racing for months. I believe that he is with OW during that time. Then in order to be with the hero again because he does not want her enough to make any compromises and is the process of divorcing her, she goes to him and says that him racing is ok. This is the last pages of the book. I want the heroes to be crazy about the heroine and this guy could take or leave her. It was very disappointing and I am sorry that I wasted my time reading it.
From the very beginning the reader is intrigued by the handsome Christiano who has definitely set his sights on Samantha. As this story continues you can't help but be drawn to Sam and her lovely step-daughter Gabby. One feels sorry for both as they have been taken advantage of by Johann whom all believe to be Gabby's father.

Johann, the evil man that he is, wagers both Sam and Gabby in a card game in Monte Carlo and of course, looses. From there on, the storyline takes twists and turns and keeps the reader on the edge of her seat.

This is just another example of how Jane Porter takes her readers to beautiful countries and entertains her readers with a very powerful story.
