Astronaut/scientist Ride teams up with a science teacher for a book about the Voyager spacecrafts' epic journeys.

Astronaut/scientist Ride teams up with a science teacher for a book about the Voyager spacecrafts' epic journeys. During them, they passed close enough to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune to take detailed pictures and measurements; the result is a wealth of new information (especially about the planets' rings and moons), gorgeous color photos, and some scientific puzzles. Aimed at younger children than Harris & Weissman's The Great Voyager Adventure (1990), this includes many of the same photos.

NASA's Voyager 2 probe continues its journey to the edge of the solar system - but the spacecraft hasn't left ye. But even as Voyager 2 is investigating the far edge of that solar wind stream, a much newer NASA spacecraft has begun investigating the place where that solar wind picks up so much speed. That's the sun's outer atmosphere, called the corona. The agency's Parker Solar Probe, which launched in August, made its first of 24 planned science passes around the sun earlier this month. com or follow her anbartels. Original article on Space.

Sally Ride broke barriers with grace and professionalism - and literally changed the face of America's space . Ride joined NASA as part of the 1978 astronaut class, the first to include women. She and five other women, along with 29 men, were selected out of 8,000 applicants.

Sally Ride broke barriers with grace and professionalism - and literally changed the face of America's space program," said NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. The nation has lost one of its finest leaders, teachers and explorers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sally's family and the many she inspired. She will be missed, but her star will always shine brightly. The class became known as the "Thirty-Five New Guys" and reported to the Johnson Space Center the next summer to begin training.

Voyager 1 is a space probe launched by NASA on September 5, 1977. Part of the Voyager program to study the outer Solar System, Voyager 1 was launched 16 days after its twin, Voyager 2. Mercury has made a rare transit, where the planet passes across the face of the Sun as seen from Earth. During the transit, Mercury appeared as a dark silhouetted disc against the bright surface of our star. It ended at 18:04 GMT when the edge of the silhouetted planet appeared to leave the Sun's disc. Professor Mike Cruise, president of the UK's Royal Astronomical Society (RAS), said: "This is a rare event, and we'll have to wait 13 years until it happens again. Book was dog eared and very used, not as described.

My 6 year old loved reading this book and learning about the Voyager expedition. Great pictures, and a lot of really specific information about all the planets and moons it encountered. A classic that should be in the library of any child or adult who loves space.
