This is the standard text book used by the Seattle public schools. My son had been using the Algebra II book used by neighboring Shoreline school district (Prentice Hall - more targeted toward continuing on in math, but with many "life line" side bars, which my son found too distracting), but decided that it was not working for him. This book is immensely more practical oriented. However, it is less focused theoretically. So, it is very good if the student is not planning to go on to higher math and wants to learn actually useful math. However, it can be a bit more tedious and less linearly progressive than its more theoretical Prentice Hall alternative.

The exact same text as might be used by some middle school or high schools. Meant mostly for sophomores and juniors in high schools.
Very poorly written with very little practice. It is one of these "investigate" and learn textbooks which do not work for a majority of students. Students are to"investigate and develop mathematics" primarily through groups/activities and this approach only works for a mathematical minded student. Most students need someone to teach them and then, they make make the connections. A textbook with good explanations and good examples to follow is one that a majority of students need. This is not it! In fact, there are fewer and fewer of these available anymore. No wonder our students are struggling in math!A teacher has to write their own materials to supplement the book and thus, has to be a good author themselves!
