Recently, I purchased three different National Audubon Society Pocket Guides as gifts for nieces and nephews.. They have already spent many hours outdoors, pocket guide in hand, ID'ing and reading about the bird, butterfly or insects they have seen. Their ages range from kindergarten to 4th grade, and working together they are learning what's in their own backyard and a little information about each one. These children spend a lot of time outdoors normally, but I think these pocket guides would entice other children to be more inquisitive about nature and maybe even pick up a hobby that would provide a lifetime of learning and enjoyment - at the same time getting them outdoors and getting exercise in the process.

I would also say that the books are so well illustrated and written that adults would also appreciate them as a gift!

This is a great addition to your library. I've had this book for years and recently gave one to a bird loving friend. It is nice and small and easy to find your favorite birds. The photos and information are excellent.
