Throughout the text, real cases-95% from the authors' own case files-provide a realistic context for the scientific findings of the book, and ensure that readers never lose sight of the fact that beyond the DSM-IV criteria, the theories, and the research are real people. The Second Edition offers a complete course solution, including online resources, an interactive CD-ROM, six compelling videos, a casebook, two books of readings, and other ancillaries that make abnormal psychology come alive for students.

not what I expected

I found want I was looking for when I purchased this book. I wanted a book that would let my students understand abnormal behavior without a degree in Psychology. This book is wounderful as for beginners in Psychology and those just wanting to know about abnormal behavior.

This book gives the explanation for various theories/concepts in a very basic manner. However, it is not an engaging read; I found it to be tedious. The CD-ROM that accompanied the textbook wasn't packaged properly and broke in half during shipping so I cannot comment on its content.

This text has received rave reviews from my students. It is reader-friendly, well-organized and up-to-date. The authors have integrated biological, cultural and social, psychological and other aspects in their explanantions. The case studies are well done and on target, simple yet precise. This text works well for a semester course (ours in twelve weeks and I have found that I can adapt it to that period of time). There is enough theory to interest advanced students, and enough basic "criteria/DSM lists" to satisfy the more [cognitively] concrete members of the class.
