Perhaps I should have known: I had read some Robert Rankin before and had found him (generally) to be more miss than hit, with this novel only serving to reinforce that opinion. IMO, I found this rather surreal and just not that funny with it rarely raising a smile, never mind a laugh! Indeed, what humour there is I found to be rather childish, almost infantile.

Robert Rankin is one of the well known authors of The United Kingdom who has written some of the very successful books based on the fantasy and fiction genres. He is particularly famous as a humorous novelist. Author Rankin was born on July 27, 1949, in Parsons Green, London, England.

Robert Rankin describes himself as a teller of tall tales. The Morning Star describes him as 'The Master of Silliness', and his publisher describes him as The Master of Far Fetched Fiction. He is the author of more than thirty novels, of which he has sold millions of copies, and he is published - and making people laugh - around the world. Despite his remarkable publishing success, Robert has never taken himself too seriously.

Born in Parsons Green, London, he started writing in the late 1970s, and first entered the bestsellers lists with "Snuff Fiction" in 1999. His books are a mix of science fiction, fantasy, the occult, urban legends, running gags, metafiction, steampunk and outrageous characters. Most of Rankin's books are set in Brentford, a suburb of London where the author grew up, and which, in his novels, is usually infested with ancient evil and/or alien conspiracies.
