Marcia Willett's fans have fallen in love with the English countryside and the wonderful characters that inhabit its idyllic setting. Written with shining honesty and compassion, The Birdcage has every bit of the wonder that Marcia Willett's fans have come to expectâ?¦. No one can foresee when life is about to change. For Felix Hamilton, it started with an evening at the theater.

So far he has been very quiet about it all, though clearly he is missing his grandfather. There won’t be anyone to do the nature book,’ he says, ‘not now I have to do my tables.

Random House, 30 сент. It was Felix who named it The Birdcage: the tall house in Bristol where Miss Pidgeon lived with her tenant, the beautiful and talented actress Angel, and Angel's daughter, Lizzie. It was Felix whom they all adored and who was so in love with Angel, but while Lizzie longed for a father, Felix had other commitments: to his insecure, possessive wife Marina and to their son Piers, both living at beautiful, mellow Michaelgarth, the family home on the edge of Exmoor.

The Birdcage By Marcia Willett.

As always, Marcia Willett's wise understanding of love, loss, marriage, and parenthood is conveyed with honesty, generosity, and compassion.

Paradise has been home to generations of Trevannions: Paradise, the house at the head of a sheltered Cornish valley where Mrs Trevannion lives, surrounded by her family. Frail and elderly Honor Trevannion, bedridden following a nasty fall, is inexplicably anxious and distressed by the arrival of a young American bearing an old black and white photograph of a double wedding and looking for a long-lost relation. As always, Marcia Willett's wise understanding of love, loss, marriage, and parenthood is conveyed with honesty, generosity, and compassion. This is the first novel I have read by this author. What a find! Marcia Willett is an outstanding English author. Her prose is so far above the average contemporary writer, that the critics seem to compare her to. Moving, and deep, this is a story that will linger on your mind for months after you finish this book. I hated to finish the last page and leave these characters. I could see and feel the English countryside.

Marcia Willett brings her characters to life, so you care about each one . I was disappointed when the storyline jumped to many years later and then became enthralled with the story. I enjoy how she brings characters back from her other books, it's like remembering old friends. This one makes you wonder for more about Gemma.

Marcia Willett is new to me but ever since her books were recommended to me, I can't put them down. I so look forward to reading her warm stories of families and friends. It is missing in today's world, but you will remember the warmth when you start reading these books. I especially loved The Birdcage. I felt like this could have happened to anyone.

I find it difficult to review each of Marcia Willetts books separately as I love them all. I am absolutely addicted to her style of writing, and her characters. I cannot tear myself away once I start one of her books, and let everything else go until I, reluctantly, come to the end!

I just finished this book and it was a really good story. I am hoping that in one of the books that follows one particular character gets her comeuppance. I will keep reading and see if I get my wish.
X-MEN X-MEN
I love all her books and as I get near the end of one I know I will want to purchase another one of Marcia Willet's smooth reading novels.

I love anything that Ms. Willett writes! Love her books and highly recommend them! They are the books that I keep for my own collection along with Belva Plain and Jan Karon!
Excellent depiction of the bitter, controlling wife and mother. Wise assessment of the resulting insecurity of the child who witnesses this disintegrating parenting.
