It is a great book for kids older than 6 years of age, because they have to be able to understand why the elves helped ou. For years I have read many versions of "The Elves and the Shoemaker", but this one was special.

For years I have read many versions of "The Elves and the Shoemaker", but this one was special. The illustrations contained, warm dark colors that are not found nowadays in childrens books, which are usually bright and loud. This added to the coziness of the book. The book is simple enough for a child learning to read. Yet, also surprisingly enjoyable for the adult.

Brilliant book! Great value and brought back so many memories! I bought this after watching a TV program about old toys and whatnot, the Ladybird "Favourite Tales" collection was featured. The Elves and the Shoemaker was my favourite as a child and I no longer had a copy. Needless to say when it arrived it didn't disappoint; the memories came flooding back.

Moby Dick - Herman Melville. The Scarlet Letter - Nathaniel Hawthorne. A shoemaker, by no fault of his own, had become so poor that at last he had nothing left but leather for one pair of shoes. So in the evening, he cut out the shoes which he wished to begin to make the next morning, and as he had a good conscience, he lay down quietly in his bed, commended himself to God, and fell asleep. Everything there was small, but more elegant and beautiful than can be described.
