Many, many stories - including my own - involved cases of sleep paralysis, which is the totally terrifying completely real occurrence in which your mind is awake but your body is asleep and you feel like someone - or something - is sitting on your chest. The Hairpin recently had a great piece about sleep paralysis, and this famous painting really sums up with those waking nightmares are like. I never really thought about it at all.
