Robert George Dylan Willis MBE (born Robert George Willis; 30 May 1949 – 4 December 2019) was an English cricketer, who played for Surrey, Warwickshire, Northern Transvaal and England. A right-handed and aggressive fast bowler with a notably long run-up, Willis spearheaded several England bowling attacks between 1971 and 1984, across 90 Test matches in which he took 325 wickets at 2. 0 runs per wicket, at the time second only to Dennis Lillee.

Bob Willis is England's fourth-highest wicket-taker in Tests. Bounding to the crease, bowling with venom and aggression, Willis looked unstoppable. That day, he was unstoppable. At his best, Willis had genuine pace, one of a rare breed in a country which has traditionally produced a host of medium-fast bowlers but few proper quicks. Few England bowlers capable of bowling consistently above 90mph have followed since and had the success he had. Steve Harmison was a fine bowler but burned far more intermittently than Willis managed. Jofra Archer may, in time, do something special.

Fast bowler Bob Willis, England's fourth-highest Test wicket taker and popular Sky Sports presenter, dies aged 70 in a hospital near his London home after a long illness. England cricket legend Bob Willis has died at the age of 70 after a long illness. The former pace bowler played in 90 Test matches and took 325 wickets. His standout moment was the 'Miracle of Headingley' in the 1981 Ashes series.

Bob Willis, who has died aged 70, was one of the heroes of England’s legendary Headingley Ashes triumph over Australia in 1981, when he took 8-43 to herald a famous victory. A fearsome strike bowler, he intimidated even the world’s finest batsmen. Hurtling in off 22 paces with a whirling, somewhat ungainly full-on action, Willis would deliver anything from an in-swinging yorker to a scorching bouncer.
