I just returned from a 5-day trip to St John.

Prior to leaving on this trip I purchased two St John Guides: St John Beach Guide by Gerald Singer and St John Feet, Fins and Four Wheel Drive by Pam Gaffin.

I bought St John Beach Guide first. The concensus of all reviews at that time was that it was a nice picture book with good information about St John. After reading the book and traveling to St John I can agree with that concensus. Still, I was a little disappointed by the quality of the book including the cover, binding and print quality. Shutterfly creates higher quality books with your own phots.

One thing I did like in the St John Beach Guide in the first half of the book was the aerial and wide shots that show several beaches in one photo and their proximity to each other. In the second half of this book ... after the part on Hawksnest and Gibney, the book quit doing this. It really helped me know which beach i was going to encounter next along Northshore Road.

My Bottom Line is that I preferred Feet, Fins and Four Wheel Drive to St John Beach Guide for quantity and quality of information. I prefer the writing style, humor and sarcasm that Ms. Gaffin uses in addition to highly detailed directions and how-to's. The St John Beach Guide does provide valuable and concise information, as well ... just not as much information and not as much "extra island flavor".

If you only want to have one book with you and still be able to get around and see every single thing there is to see on St John, the only book you really need is St John Feet, Fins and Four Wheel Drive. If you want a nice keepsake with decent info and nice photographs, then purchase both of Mr Singer's books as supplemental information. If cost is not an object, I think it would be nice to have all three of these St John Guide books.

This is one of a few books I purchased for my honeymoon to the Virgin Islands. As in other books, it seems that the books on St. John are always the best. This book is a nice guide to the beaches of St. John. I don't think it is the best or most thorough guide out there, but the photographs really bring this book on an even keel with others like St. John : Feet, Fins and Four Wheel Drive.

I think more important is that the photos in the book and the very concise beach guide make a nice coffee table book for after the trip when you want to show off the places you went. St. John really is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and unlike other travel guides, which you would probably get rid of once the trip is over, this one is one you'll want to keep forever just for the photos and memories.

Purchased this book for a family member who will be traveling to St. John for a week long vacation. The photos are beautiful and there's a paragraph or so of information on each.
The book is small, without many pages. Maybe I didn't read the description closely enough; I'm pretty sure I read "coffee-table book" somewhere and was expecting a more substantial read. It's a "night-stand book" at best.
Don't get me wrong; was I glad I purchased it.. yes! It was exactly what I was looking for in the way of an informative gift, but I was hoping it was just a little bigger. I also purchased a map of St. John (it includes St. Thomas and St. Croix) at the same time and was very glad I did as it added to the presentation.

Truly captures the beauty of St John while providing great basic information in a small size coffee table book. Anyone who has been to this special place will enjoy going back to these pages time after time.

This book is both beautiful and informative. The pictures are incredible and it is a perfect "coffee table book." But it is so packed with good info on all the beaches, especially on the north shore, that I will be taking it with me on my 4th trip to St. John. Well worth the money if you are planning a trip to the most beautiful island in the Caribbean.

The essence of St. John is it's beaches. This beautiful book goes straight to the heart of the matter. If you're planning on going there, you may want this book.

We've been to St. John 4 times and I still love looking at the book and can say...."I was there". I love it!
The photography in this book is perfect to get you in the mood to visit this beautiful island. If you want more detail about the culture, history, trails, and other things to do, Feet, Fins, and Four-Wheel Drive is a must to be "in the know" when you get there.
