Description

The Tenth Commandment book. As with ANY book by Lawrence Sanders, this is an excellent story written in Sanders' usual tongue-in-cheek style.

The Tenth Commandment book. Real-life, believable characters with his usual selection of whimsical names and humourous dialogue, this book is a quick and very entertaining read with at least two absorbing plots that keeps the reader reluctant to stop as you want to see what happens next. It also benefits from a minimum of profanity which some authors apparently feel is necessary to make their plots believeable.

Lawrence Sanders (1920–1998) was the New York Times bestselling author of more than forty mystery and suspense novels. The Anderson Tapes, completed when he was fifty years old, received an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for best first novel. His prodigious oeuvre encompasses the Edward X. Delaney, Archy McNally, and Timothy Cone series, along with his acclaimed Commandment books. Stand-alone novels include Sullivan's Sting and Caper. Sanders remains one of America’s most popular novelists, with more than fifty million copies of his books in print.

Joshua Bigg, an investigator for a Manhattan law firm, usually spends his days tracking down witnesses and verifying clients’ alibis. Ironically, Bigg is quite short, and uses his boyish looks to coax information from his targets.

I enjoyed this book. It was actually published in 1980. That plus the language and mannerisms make this feel like a 50s throwback private eye novel when read in 2018. Sanders may error slightly on over-description, but it does also aid to the time-capsule-like quality of reading this book almost 40 years after it first came out. I found Josh Bigg an interesting character and, although the mystery is relatively simple to guess, watching Bigg and Percy figure it out was entertaining.

The first book I've read from this author and I'm relatively certain it's the last. Way too much detail regarding elements that are totally irrelevant to the storyline,e.g., clothing of the characters in agonizing detail. I found the story itself to be way off center, as compared to some of the other legal thrillers I've been reading. My 2 stars are generous based on my level of satisfaction.

I have read it before. I lost it because my computer died. I was delighted to read it again. The story is about a short man and the problems and benefits of being short. I got it on my kindle and plan to reread it again.

It is a good read. I hate to see it all end. Having read most of Sanders novels, I have never been disappointed.

I had completed the Archy McNally series and wanted something light or of the same type and this was a bit more dramatic than I was prepared for. It was, as mysteries go, a pretty good read. I just wanted something lighter.

I have always trusted Lawrence; the original Lawrence Sanders: detailed, logical, well-crafted, and with humor. This is a good read.

His grasp of details is superb. He obviously is a marvelous observer. Highly recommend. I'm going to certainly continue with the series.
I love this book and read it about once every 2 years! That's why I got this hardcover edition: my paperback os in tatters!
