Throughout this autobiography, there are anecdotes, particularly of battles with bureaucrats and politicians while working in government (he was for a period under McCarthyism blacklisted from involvement in economic policy making) and of conflicts with fellow scholars, with many of whom he disagreed, but never at the expense of friendship.

Henry Ford’s assembly line is the best-known example; others include the American system of manufacturing, introducing interchangeable parts, in the 19th century, and logistics practices such as containerisation. Except for the 1970s and into the 1980s, when Japanese process innovations such as just-in-time production took the lead, America has been at the frontier of management practice as well as science and technology. Both proposals are attractive from an economist’s point of view, if hardly politically realistic.

However, its next recorded use was in its present sense, by Robert Southey in 1809. Despite only being named early in the nineteenth century, first-person autobiographical writing originates in antiquity.

Adam Smith is often called the Father of Modern Economics, although the science was called political . In his understanding the economic development is guided by objective laws and is independent of the volition of an individual.

Adam Smith is often called the Father of Modern Economics, although the science was called political economy then. Smith realized that a nation’s wealth depended on its ability to produce goods. The value of these goods depended on the cost of production. The cost of production depended on the cost of workers, raw materials and land. He called those laws natural and tried to deduce them from the nature of the human being.

Adam Smith biography - Adam Smith is a very well-known Scottish philosopher and economist. Smith believed in this idea has claimed the existence of an ‘invisible hand’ in the economy which regulated demand and supply within markets. His faith in the invisible hand was based on the principle that as all individuals act in their own best interests, they inadvertently lead to set of actions that are most beneficial for the whole of society. The Wealth of Nations emerged as one of the most influential books ever written, forming the basis for classical economics.

Adam Smith did not present readers with a theory of freedom per se.

2 From Smith to Marx The Rise and Fall of Classical Economics. The stories and ideas of these Big Three economists are told in context of a larger history I have described in greater detail in The Making of Modern Economics. In the introduction to that work, I describe two possible approaches to writing about the lives and ideas of economists, what I term the spectral versus the hierarchal approach. The man with the pedestrian name wrote a book for the welfare of the average working man.

Поставляется из: США Описание: The most extensive collection of Henry Jamess autobiographical writings ever published offers a revelatory self-portrait from one of Americas supreme novelists and his famous family. In 1911, deeply affected by the death of his brother William the year before, Henry James began working on a book about his early life. As was customary for James in his later years, he dictated his recollections to his secretary Theodora Bosanquet, who recalled how a straight dive into the past brought to the surface treasure after treasure.
