My daughter and I read this together. She had no problem understanding the language, and we enjoyed facts which we had not found elsewhere.

This book is very difficult and frustrating to follow or understand - even for adults. I recommend using another book to learn about Washington.

The idea of this book is fantastic. The study of GW is great, the one-syllable words, great. But the language is very old english, which in an of itself is fine. But it was so much for my 7 year old to understand. It took the fun out of it. She had a hard time comprehending and did not enjoy it in the least. We bought a different book on GW, and she thouroughly enjoyed it.

I noticed that the negative comment was because of the use of sophisticated language which is hard for many children (and adults for that matter) to read these days. This is what we love about this book and many alike. It was written back in the late 1800's which of course, writing was much different. The use of vocabulary and sentence structure is beautiful, more sophisticated and true to the time that you're leaning about. Far more advanced than what they teach in todays schools. We homeschool and choose books such as these for that very reason so our children are used to this type of writing. Book is beautifully written and I would highly recommend it!!
