Our History: The Story of Our Family.

Our History: The Story of Our Family. I found that some family history books lean more towards a woman filling these books out (by having Your Genealogy and Your Husband’s Genealogy ); however, this book does not do that. It is split into Wife’s Genealogy and Husband’s Genealogy, and I much prefer this. There is not a lot of room to fill out details about older generations. I was looking for a book to record just my family tree. This would be good for a wedding or anniversary gift.

This family tree book has a dark green exterior. I would say this book focuses primarily on your generation and your parent’s generation. It is more of a record on recent family events than following your history all the way back. 39 people found this helpful. There is also a lot of space for extra information, such as citizenship records, weddings, where ancestors have lived, homes you have lived in, schools and graduations, military service records, family traditions, and more.

This book is a wonderful book. It inspired me to do a lot of genealogy research and although I am now automated, I still carry this book as a quick reference guide. It was a baby shower gift and it's the only gift that I continue to use!

"Our Family Story", a genealogy book printed in 1986 by the Longmeadow Press, is an outstanding records book. 142 pages long, it contains so many different sections in which to record information, even with all the info needed to fill in the blanks it would take a long time to get the job completely done. Military service records, a family tree for the mother and father with a section focusing on both and then one on each, citizenship and marriage records sections, areas to list family vacations, reunions, sports, clubs and groups they've been a part of... the list in the table of contents has over twenty different sections in total.

This book cannot be made to contain everything about your family. Its family tree listings go no farther back than great, great, great grandparents of the mother and father who began the record. Considering those grandparents were almost certainly born in the late 1700's, that covers a lot of history. The military service records are similarly limited, able to contain no more than eight soldiers your family has had. But this book, when finished, will provide a solid foundation on which to build further research. If you are ever lucky enough to fill it in entirely, you will know a lot.

Understand something, though- there can be no margin for error when writing things down in this book. Double and triple check everything, from more than one source if possible, before recording anything as fact. Understand something else, though- few books can produce results so meaningful, or give satisfaction so great, as ones like "Our Family Story". They can take a very long time to finish. Ours, begun on 1-7-1990, came into my possession some time ago and is still incomplete despite all the great progress we've made. But despite all the trouble this research can be, how long and frustrating the road to a complete genealogy book no doubt will be, I urge everyone who sees this review to buy this book for themselves and get to work. When it's done, make copies and ensure it can always be found by those who want to read it. Believe me- future generations will thank you, and the past ones surely will if they're still around to do it.
