A comedy of Russian gangsters, town planners and a dog called Nigel. He liked to pee on it. Malcolm would have to wait until Nigel had finished, but he didn’t mind because when you stood by this tree you got a great view of Hampstead Heath. Malcolm could imagine he was deep in the countryside, rather than in the middle of London.

She tolerated the lowly people who jammed her sitting room at these meetings. She tolerated the off-the-peg clothes they wore. She tolerated their accents and the way they had to work for a living.

She tolerated the lowly people who jammed her sitting room at these meetings. She tolerated their accents and the way they had to work for a living he was even willing to shake hands with one or two of them, if they seemed important enough. She still found it perfectly shocking that he was supposed to be a professor of something or other at the University of London.

Terry Jones first exhibited signs that all was not well with his health in July . People get into all sorts of trouble – particularly if they are also losing the ability to speak and to explain their actions.

Terry Jones first exhibited signs that all was not well with his health in July 2014. He and his close friend Michael Palin were performing with the rest of the surviving Monty Python’s Flying Circus troupe in a show of sketches and songs, Monty Python live (mostly) at the O2 in London. Terry was always very good at remembering lines, recalled Palin last week. Palin and Jones first started working together in 1965 on The Frost Report, a collaboration that culminated in the formation of the Monty Python Flying Circus team in 1969.

I went: Terry Jones - Monty Python and I thought side-splitting fun (as I'm a big Python fan). Not even close. It's a tame story with very few laughs and 'yes' I read the whole sordid book, with grand hopes of at least a giggle would come out of it - but nothing. I'm not sure if Terry was trying too hard or what, but this was not hilarious, not even close. My suggestion: don't bother.

I bought this while staying in Hampstead, and what a fun read it was. Terry Jones deftly works in local socio-political commentary as well. Children also will enjoy this.

A well written fun read.

Trouble on the Heath is a sort of Carl Hiaasen/Bill Fitzhugh style short story revolving around the planning of an unpopular oversized house in a quiet British culdesac that if allowed to be built will wreck the local environment, destroy local business and block the nice view of the heath residents have enjoyed since they moved into the street. The local residents' association is full of eccentric characters including many who only attend the meetings for the free refreshments and food. I found this to be extremely entertaining as working in a library myself I can relate to this as we constantly come across elderly people who just attend talks by visitors for the free food and complain when their expected chocolate cake or something is replaced by something else. So Malcolm Thomas, Chairman of the Highgrove Park Resident's Association has quite the task in front of him if he's going to organise necessary action to lodge an objection to the development. Something he's just found out is happening and time is running out for objections to be lodged. These aren't the only eccentric characters in this short story though, there's also a bumbling hit man, evil Russian super villain who is building the house, local council bureaucrat whose depressed from all the abuse he has to put up with in the town planning office as well as others fill these pages.

The author Terry Jones is best known for his Monty Python, Eric the Viking and similar TV/Movie appearances. This is his first adult fiction attempt after writing many children's book. This does reflect a little in some of his characters such as the Russian villain Grigori Koslov and his hit man Anton, being a bit cartoony but still, it's a great story.
