Ragnhild Lund Ansnes. Writer and female journalist Ragnhild Lund Ansnes has spent two years getting to know many of the greatest legends who played for the Reds during the past 50 years. The result is a fascinating official club book which, for the first time, delves beneath the surface to tell the human story of the man behind the player. In 2010, Ansnes penned the best-selling official Liverpool Hearts which analysed how following Liverpool FC has changed the lives of Norwegian fans and showed what football is doing to its supporters. This is a delightful collection of interviews with 14 Liverpool greats of the last 50 years.

Ragnhild has developed a great passion for this club and manages to get some tremendous personal insights from this cast of superstars. One thing that comes across so strongly from each is how it's never been about them as individuals, it's always about the club.

This morning I watched an American Idol clip of a Liverpool-born lass Hollie Cavanagh singing "You'll Never Walk Alone". Besides being a wonderful performance, it made me reflect on the vignettes contained in this excellently produced book. There is this spirit about LFC that carries forward through each new generation of team, a spirit of togetherness, solidarity, of the sum being greater than the collection of individuals.

I grew up following LFC in the glory years of the 70s and 80s when the club was the best in the world. Even through the less glamorous years since, the YNWA spirit still prevails. This book provides a wonderful insight into why as Ragnhild explores some quite personal recollections and the strong connection many of the players families had with the club. One can't not smile when reading of how Tommy Smith's mum told Bill Shankly in no uncertain terms that her still teenage son would one day play for the first team.

From Roy Evans revealing the truth behind the legendary "Boot Room", to Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler expressing their deep personal friendship, to Alan Kennedy's sense of loss due to his marriage ending as a result of his still single-minded focus on football, to super-sub Davie Fairclough grieving the recent death of his too young a wife, this book has many poignant and compelling perspectives.

And of course lots of discussion about football games. The big ones: the FA Cup final to the nights we were crowned Kings of Europe, it's all here from the inside players perspective.

Decorated with many photos from personal albums this is a must for all serious LFC fans collections.

Congratulations Ragnhild on a great book.
