I believe I was 10 (1970) when I came across this book in my elementary school's library...and the tale touched my heart in ways few others ever have. Of course, perhaps because it may have been the first to touch me on such a deep emotional level, granted.

In reviewing this book; I should state I am an only child of divorced parents - so I had no brothers or sisters; and that is what this book is about... A brother and sister who can't get along until circumstances force them to do so. Its a lesson of love, kindness and maturity.

So why did it touch me, as an only? Perhaps because I always wanted siblings? Perhaps, but more so that these two children came to realize their familial love for each other. It is a VERY heart-warming and uplifting story.

At the time I was also rather advanced in my music lessons on the big Wurlitzer organ we had (and still have, in storage, btw) and I wrote a musical accompaniment or theme song for the book - a simple melody. But I had an older friend, George who had a kid sister, Marion. (George was 12 to my 10; Marion 9) and I loaned George the "Two on an Island" book - which I stole from the school library - and he would always want to hear my song about this book.

Even as adults, I have found this book helpful as sibling rivalries and dysfunctional families are the norm; troubles that do in fact go back to very young years. So since finding this book, I have loaned it to a friend and it has helped their rather tortured relationship as well. (Dr. Phil - are you listening? Lol...)

This is a very heart-warming book I treasured as a 10 yr old child. It might also be of note to social workers or therapists.

Loved this book when I was in 5th grade and the story has stuck in my head all these years. I was excited to find a copy, and although I wish the story had a stronger ending, it was still very good. Read it to my kids and they really enjoyed it in spite of how long ago it was written.

I loved this book when I was a little girl so I found it for my daughters. They love it too but some of the girl/boy behavior is a bit dated. Still a good drama for kids.

There are two kids that are stranded on an island. I think the book is very interesting. The book makes you think what is going to happen. It is medium to read for a 7 year old. I like the book because you never know what going to happen in the next chapter.
This is a book that I read as a child in elementary school. I'm in my 40s now and still remember it fondly. For a young reader, it is a very suspenseful survival story.
