Hamilton has said that in his Shakespeare studies his essays and ideas all begin with his observations of handwriting. He has drawn some interest, and also has his critics. Gary Taylor has said that Hamilton is a considerable paleographer, but some of his views on Shakespeare are controversial and too recent to have been subjected to thorough scholarly scrutiny. This book records the lives and activities of personalities associated with National Socialist Germany. It contains a unique gathering of autographs, biographies, and rare photographs to give a personal view of Adolf Hitler and the individuals that influenced him, and those he captivated with his far reaching ideas.

This companion book to volume 1 records the lives and activities of additional personalities associated with Nazi Germany. With their in-depth biographies appear scores of never-before-published photographs and hundreds of rare signatures and documents. Among the characters covered are the cohorts of the Nazis, many of them puppets who moved only when Hitler pulled their strings; the "dark" individuals whose deeds are unique in the annals of human depravity; in sharp contrast are the German leaders who plotted to overthrow the regime and paid the ultimate price; cultural leaders including philosophers, inventors, artists, actors and authors; the military leaders, many of them aloof from the politics, are described in chapters on the Field Marshals and Luftwaffe heroes; and the wily German spies who sometimes altered history with their clandestine activities. This historical document has been superbly researched and written and belongs in the library of every person that loves and cherishes the autograph hobby, both collector and dealer alike.

THIS SECOND VOLUME ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT SERVED THE THIRD REICH AND ITS CLIQUE OF GROTESQUE LEADERS IS EXTREMELY WELL WRITTEN. THE MINIONS THAT FED AT THE TROUGH OF NAZI TYRANNY WERE TALENTED PEOPLE WHO SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER, BUT WHO WERE SEDUCED BY THE LURE OF FAME AND POWER. THE BIOGRAPHIES ARE CONCISE AND OFTEN BRIEF, BUT GIVE THE READER A WINDOW INSIDE THE THIRD REICH. IF YOU'VE EVER WONDERED WHAT HAPPENED TO SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO'VE BECOME FOOTNOTES IN NAZI HISTORY, THIS IS THE BOOK TO CONSULT. ITS FIRST VOLUME IS IN A SIMILAR VEIN, AND IS ALSO RECOMMENDED.

Volume 2 expands on Volume 1, taking in Field Marshalls and Grand Admirals, Leaders of other Axis powers, spies and cultural leaders and any number of other interesting characters who one way or another helped turn the wheels of the Nazi Empire. Each individual has a photograph, their autograph, date of birth and death, their position in the Third Reich and a biography of their life. It can all be cross referenced with other individuals, giving an excellent baseline from which the web that stretched out from Berlin across Europe could be seen to work. Having spent nearly fifty years studying Hitler's inner circle, I can say that with both volumes of Charles Hamilton's works on my shelf, I have the ultimate research tools on the folk who ran Germany before and during WW2.
