Barry S. Brook was an American internationally renowned musicologist, educator and author who established and led a doctoral program in music at the City University of New York Graduate School. Early in his career, Brook worked as a tutor in music at the City College of New York from 1940 to 1942, and then at Queens College of the university beginning in 1945. While at the City University of New York, he became a professor of music, executive officer of the school’s PhD program in music, aid chair of its City University Music Council. He also worked in Paris through a series of grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and as a Fulbright scholar.
