Although this text covers a lot of time (generally the Renaissance through twentieth century Europe) this professor has a focus on the nineteenth century. Comparatively, he spends the most amount of time discussing this time period. I would recommend this to people who are keenly interested specifically in Europe during the 19th century. It describes the changes that an emerging middle class (from the Industrial Revolution) in Europe caused with respect to the Old Regime. If you want more information on the 20th century read "Europe in the Twentieth Century" by Paxton.

The book is definitely for middle school and high school students. This would be a good book to skim over before starting a year in world history/European history. Not going to go to in depth on any period, but give a general overview of a period. Great book nonetheless.

I bought this book as a companion to an iTunes course by the author. I was a history major in college and I love its detail. I'm thrilled with it!

This is great text. I can be used as a reference, but is well - written enough to read cover to cover.

This textbook is accessible and incredibly interesting. It covers a broad swath of history and is told in a tone that is engaging and brings to life the different periods. I highly recommend it.

I'm confused when I see negatives on Merriman. I think he is a great writer and does a wonderful job summarizing a large portion of history to a chew-able size without damaging the subject.
For the historian that wants a light read and for a beginner excellent!I happen to enjoy reading this book.I would recommend that you buy it!
