Public Speaking and Civic Engagement promotes public speaking as a vehicle for civic engagement by showing the reader how to address issues, think critically, engage in productive dialogue, formulate sound arguments, and develop an ethic of advocacy. The civic engagement theme is unique in that it envisions public speaking as a vehicle for promoting the common good, while also emphasizing its role in personal advancement and fulfillment. By using specific examples–of students, of citizens engaged in community affairs, of historic and contemporary public figures–the book teaches the reader how to address substantive issues that impact their communities at local, state, national, and international levels.

Even though I do not need it at all for class, I find it to be very insightful I think I had asked for the wrong class on the UVM bookstore, but even still, it was a great deal.

It looks very new!
I have rented textbooks from Amazon before but I was nervous to buy a textbook online for which I was required to have an access code. However, this was packaged as listed and the one-time access code worked fine. Buying it new on Amazon was cheaper than getting it through my school and with my Amazon Student Prime membership, I received it in two days.

I have had issues with other textbooks from this publisher (Mastering Health & Nutrition - the quizzes did not match the text information), but so far so good with this one. I love having both a physical copy of the book as well as access to the e-text on the website.
