I currently have a class on corrections and penology. This is a good supplement to the class. However, I do notice the professor (a police officer) tends to add a lot more and elaborate on the book, leading me to wonder if it's lacking. Do have to realize that police officers have a lot of first hand experience that can't be relayed into a book, though. I wouldn't recommend this for reading on a whim - to be honest, it would be quite boring. However, it's very informative - exactly what a textbook should be.
