The purpose of this article is to describe the theoretical models that underlie the book Cultural Diversity in Health and Illness. Cultural and gender norms shape how mental illness and therapy are perceived. However, there is a paucity of adequate empirical evidence around gender and cultural dimensions of mental illness. In this paper we situate social media as a "lens" to examine these dimensions.

This could have been a good book. The writing is clear, appropriate charts are provided, and the organization of the book is well put together.

Shelves: medicine, psychology-and-add. This could have been a good book. However, there was an abundance of mis-information in the book. Many things were said about multiple cultures, belief systems and practices that simply weren't accurate

This book promotes an awareness of the dimensions and complexities involved in caring for people from diverse cultural backgrounds. It examines the differences existing within North America by probing the health care system and consumers, and examples of traditional health beliefs and practices among selected populations. An emphasis on the influences of recent social, political, and demographic changes help to explore the issues and perceptions of health and illness today.

This is an excellent, comprehensive overview of many cultures and serves my need in teaching a unit lecture on Cultural Diversity in Client Care to BSN students in two courses: Health Promotion and Nursing in High Acuity Settings.

Great book on diversity and health.

Over all, I enjoyed reading the book. It generally flowed well and was easy to understand. It had enough depth to adequately cover the content in a semester based class (which also covered some nursing theory using other texts) without getting too bogged down in detail. Many parts were enlightening and, until I read the book, I really never considered that health care itself has a culture of it's own. I gave it four stars because I would not want this to be my only text for an entire class.

It is amazing learning how each culture handle and treat illnesses. We learn this with Cultural Diversity in Health and Illness. How other natural alternatives vs manufacture medicines can aide in the healing process and key element PRAYER and Faith in God work must work together. Faith without works is dead.

I was informed by my professor that I need the new version, I bought all of the books from the ISBN numbers given, which were all the same, yet when the books arrived they were all an older version. So any up to date books that you have, please let me know.

This book was required for online college course. I thought this book was just okay as it wasn't very interesting to me. I thought this book would provide more detailed examples but I found it to be a "so-so" book.
text book for nursing school. It had the information I needed for the class, but nothing I would read or pay money for my personal use
