This finding indicates that the processes that govern se-. mantic expectancy (as reflected in the P400) are quali-. tatively different from those involved in musical ex-. pectancy (as reflected in the P600) (23). Interestingly, a. doubly incongruous condition – namely an incongruous. word delivered out of tune in an excerpt from an opera. has been shown to elicit both a P400 and a P600 com-. Emotional effects of music in pathology: seizures. pend on the activation not only of temporal acoustic re-. gions, but also of the frontal cortex and the limbic struc-. ture, which are involved in the emotional processing of. the musical stimuli (25).

Recent studies have begun to elucidate the roles played in social cognition by specific neural structures, genes, and neurotransmitter systems.

These neural systems appear to powerfully assist the hypothalamic regulator in defending the lower limits of body weight, but they do little in overcoming its inherent weakness to defend over-nutrition and the upper limits of body weight and adiposity

These neural systems appear to powerfully assist the hypothalamic regulator in defending the lower limits of body weight, but they do little in overcoming its inherent weakness to defend over-nutrition and the upper limits of body weight and adiposity. The challenge is to define the role of these extrahypothalamic brain structures involved in the cognitive, rewarding, and emotional aspects of ingestive and physical activity behaviors and their relationship to the homeostatic regulator, and to assess the capacity of these mechanisms in predisposing to obesity.
