Apostolic Farming: Healing the Earth. I would recommend this book to any Christian who wanted a theological or a specifically Christian philosophical basis for a back to the land movement that is based in reality and doesn't overlook the potential problems in achieving the goal. I am planning to implement a more ecumenical version of the plan herein described in the relatively near future and hope that others will, too. I think the inspiration for those who would like to see this is present in this book and should be looked to for a road map that can be used almost anywhere toward this end.

Adapted from Apostolic Farming: Healing the Earth by Catherine Doherty. Other books by Catherine Doherty include: Poustinia (Madonna House Classics) and Soul of My Soul. Catherine Doherty was a Russian Orthodox Catholic who survived WWI and then moved to Canada. She started the West's first poustinia in 1962 to create a peaceful location conducive to deepening people's faith. This item 6501 digitally provided courtesy of CatholicCulture.

The reflections on trust and hard work refreshed my memory of the calming ways of the salt-of-the-earth people I love who work their own land. The faith, sacrifice, and humility that lay close to the hand of God are beautifully emphasized by this simple little book with a Catholic lens on farming.

This short book reads like a meditation but encompasses so many good things. Worth re-reading to get the depth of her sharing.

With writing that is almost poetic, the author writes about the earth much like a new mother talks about her babe. Doherty's deep respect for our planet is contagious. I see differently because of her.

It is a very powerful message for everyone of us to cherish the gift we receive every day - of fresh food on our tables. It is a powerful message for each of us to give the gift of ourselves through the labor of our hands. It truly touched a spot in my own heart.

Written with the heart of not just a historian, but of one remembering generational stories of truth. We talk about creation, GMO in foods, caring for the earth. This book without knowing what is happening today, talks about how food was grown, how the earth was cared for generations before. You will look at today and be amazed at the truth this book states. This book is informational and inspiring whether you are a gardener, a farmer, or one who eats organic or for local foods. I can't see anyone not loving this book from the heart.
