I am a professional forester and have lived my life in the woods. Tom Hayes book, "Hunting the Whitetail Deer" is outstanding! I recommend it to all hunters both novice and experienced. The book is a must read for those woodsmen interested in improving their outdoor skills and knowledge of the hunt, firearms and animal behavior. The post WWII era (copyright 1960) was a time when quality in both firearms and the hunt was at its peak. A time before everything became mechanized, super-sized and commercialized. "How to Hunt the Whitetail Deer" is both a tribute to that era and the fair chase hunt.

I also enjoyed this book. Some of the deer biology and information about scrapes may be outdated but it is a good read on simple deer hunting from a bygone era. Detailed reviews of deer rifles and sights of the period. Some great insights and tips on shooting deer and taking advantage of shot opportunities when they arise.
