From Cairo, IL to New Orleans (The Big Easy)! If you have seen the Mississippi River, then you know you have to see it again. There is just something about this River and area that takes you back in time and the Life on the River just seems gentler. For William Chapman to jump on a float and take off down the river for 5 months is a dream come true. I am really jealous that he has done this and I have not! But through the outstanding photographs that William has taken for us and his spot-on commentary will give you a good idea how exciting this adventure would be if given the chance. You hear about rivers and people are always proud of their river, but a few years back I was in Argentina and traveling on the Silver River (The widest river in the world they tell me, but it is only 3-4 feet deep with pollution you can't believe...a dead river). But the Mississippi River still lives on and still changes as currents demand. This is the "Mighty" Mississippi for a very good reason. Like history? Then it is waiting for you along the Mississippi Banks. This was an exciting book and will expand your knowledge of an American Frontier! ROLL ON! And thanks William Chapman for taking the trip into history and sharing it with us.

Since I married my "Louisiana Sweetheart" over 39 years ago, I have always wanted to jump on the "Delta Queen" and ride the Mississippi River. It wasn't until a few days ago, when I had the opportunity to read William R. Chapman's "RAFTING ON THE MISSISSIPPI; A JOURNAL OF DISCOVERY", That I was finally able to experence that dream. Although it wasn't on the "Delta Queen", that I was able to make this trip. I was able to do so in a much more fulfilling and exciting way. Through reading Chapman"s newly published book, entitled "RAFTING ON THE MISSISSIPPI; A JOURNAL OF DISCOVERY", I was able to experience a ride that I will never forget. It seemed as though I was in a dream, and that I had actually sneaked aboard his very own "Home Made Raft", when Chapman first set afloat in Cairo, Illinois in 1970.....Destination.....New Orleans, Louisiana.
Chapman's ability to bring you aboard for the ride, even though I had sneaked on without his knowledge, was an amazing and beautiful experience of a life time. He was able to accomplish this through his self written text and his many astonishing
photographs. Yes, I have floated the Mississippi, and have experienced a ride that I never could have had on the "Delta Queen"....My sincere thanks to William R. Chapman.

What a fascinating read. Unlike the vast majority of us, William R. Chapman makes a boyhood dream come true with an odyssey aboard his homemade vessel from Cairo, IL to New Orleans, LA. Illustrated with numerous photographs, Bill takes us every step of the way down the 'mighty Missisip'. Reading for a few days you can experience the sandbars, paddle-wheelers, and other obstacles encountered during the six month voyage.
