This is one of the landmark books in the historic preservation repertoire and should be in every preservationist's library. That said, the book is quite dated and reflects the opinions prevalent at the time of writing. It does, however, provide a very lucid snapshot of one of the great historic cities of New England at a critical juncture in its history.
