Regarding the 90 black and white pictures: they are excellent and show clear details. Remember, when this book was first published in 1984, it was common practice to use black and white pictures. Color pictures were very expensive to publish and increased the price of the purchase. There are however, 4 color pictures in the center of this book; which was also common practice for the time this book was published. Contents cover: Shirts, Mantles, Plaids, Trews, Proscription and Repeal, Kilts, George IV, Queen Victoria, Tartans, Ladies of Scotland, Scottish Tweed, Scottish Bonnets, Fisher Folk, Medieval Highland Warriors, Scottish Military Uniforms, Royal Company of Archers, Highland Arms, List of Illustrations, Acknowledgments, Introduction, Bibliography, and Index. 216 Pages in all. Excellent, in depth study of the history of Scottish dress. The book is well illustrated. I only wish that more of the illustrations could have been in color, rather than describing the colors in the text. No doubt cost concerns prohibited that. It is a definitive work for the seriously interested person. I very highly recommend it.
