Must know the term before looking up meaning. However, explanations are good. Not a good choice for me but a good "coffee table" book.

In 1985 I bought my first copy of this book by Ann Ladbury. My aim was to read as much about sewing as I possibly could, to see whether I'd really be interested in dressmaking before I bought my first sewing machine.

After reading and studying the book from cover to cover, I felt confident enough to attempt making my own clothes and sew for the home. The dressmaker's dictionary became my most important sewing companion in the years to follow and I reluctantly parted with it, amongst other things when we emigrated from South Africa to Australia in 2008.

When my 19 year old daughter started showing an interest in dressmaking recently, I so wished that I still had my copy of The Dressmaker's Dictionary to pass on to her. I decided to search on Amazon for a copy, but did not have much hope, as the market is flooded with similar books and the chances would be very slim in finding an exact copy.

Great was my surprise when I not only found a copy of the book for sale, but after receiving my second-hand copy, to find it in a hardcover edition (I only had a paperback copy back then) and also to find it in pristine condition.

In my opinion, still the most thorough and informative dressmaker's companion ever!
